Custom wooden doors & gates in Koh Samui

Doors and gates built to the opening they fill: measured on site, made in our workshop, hung by our own crew.

Solid teak entrance door in a herringbone pattern, made and installed by our Koh Samui workshop

A door is the one piece of joinery you touch every day, and the first thing a house shows a visitor. We build them to order: entrance doors in solid teak, full-height pivot leaves, wide sliding doors, interior doors, and driveway gates with matching pedestrian doors. Everything in the photographs on this page is our own work, shot on the sites where the doors were hung or on the bench where they were built.

Made to measure means the frame and the leaf are one job. Openings in island construction are rarely square, so we measure the actual opening before anything is priced or cut, then build frame, architraves and leaf together so the reveals land even and the door swings true. Standard sizes never enter the process; a wider entrance, a taller leaf, or an opening that tapers a centimetre from head to sill is simply what the drawing records.

Coastal air is hard on doors. Solid timber moves as humidity swings, and an entrance door takes sun on one face and shade on the other, which is exactly the condition that warps a poorly built leaf. So construction carries the climate: stable, well-dried teak, panel lay-ups that give movement somewhere to go, and sealing on all six faces of the leaf, top and bottom edges included, because the unsealed bottom edge is where most doors start to fail. Hardware is chosen for the same conditions, from heavy-duty hinges and floor-pivot sets to sliding tracks and smart locks fitted at the bench rather than improvised on site.

Finishing happens in our own paint shop, where the painters spray and cure each leaf flat before it travels. Clear-coated teak, stained tones or full paint finishes all leave the workshop finished, so installation day is hanging and adjustment, not sanding in your hallway. We don't charge for the consultation on interior work, and every door or gate is quoted per project once we have seen the opening.

How we work

  1. Measure the opening

We visit, check the opening for square and level, and measure the actual masonry, not the plan. Fitted work is only ever quoted from our own measurements.

  2. Agree the design

Pattern, timber, finish, and hardware are settled on a drawing you approve, with an itemized quote for the whole job: leaf, frame, finish, and installation.

  3. Build and finish in the workshop

The frame and leaf are made together in our Chaweng workshop, then sealed and finished in the paint shop before anything travels to site.

  4. Hang, fit, and hand over

Our crew installs the frame, hangs the leaf, fits the hardware, and adjusts the swing and gaps until the door closes the way it should.

Frequently asked questions

Do you make gates as well as doors?

Yes. Driveway gates, pedestrian gates, and matched sets where the gate and the entrance door share one design are all regular work for us, in the same solid teak construction as our doors.

Can you build from a photo or an architect's drawing?

Both. A photo of a door you like tells us the pattern and the proportions; an architect's drawing tells us the opening. Send either one, and we'll still measure the opening ourselves before the design is settled.

Can you replace a door in an existing frame?

Usually, yes. We measure the existing frame and check it for square and condition first; if the frame itself has moved or rotted, we'll tell you honestly whether a new leaf alone will hang well or the frame should be replaced with it.

What wood are your doors made from?

Most of our door and gate work is solid teak, which handles the island's humidity and sun as well as any timber available here. If your project calls for something else, painted finishes included, we'll talk through the options honestly when we quote.

How long does a custom door take?

It depends on the design, the finish, and the workshop's current schedule, so we don't publish a standard lead time. You get a realistic timeline with your itemized quote, after we've measured the opening.

How should we reply?

Area or village — it helps us plan the site visit.

Sizes, rough measurements, links to furniture you've bought — and mention if you have photos; we'll ask for them by chat or email.
